Project Beginnings

Dr.Kwang Yul Cha, M.D., founder of CHA Health Systems, unveiled the multi-year plan to the hospital's medical staff and administrative leadership in April. Dr. Cha shared that the project will usher in a new era of healthcare in the community,” while also fulfilling California’s seismic safety mandate that all hospitals must meet by 2020. In order to be compliant with earthquake safety rules, the hospital will begin the transition into a new building rather than retrofit the existing buildings.
Starting in November, work will begin on a new 650-spot parking structure for patients, employees and visitors. The new garage will also serve to beautify the area with landscaping and modern design. The parking structure is anticipated to be fully constructed in November 2017, upon which work will begin on the new Emergency Department. The hospital will also relocate its kitchen and dietary department, which serves patients, visitors and employees.

Facility Improvements

The new ED will include an expansion from 20 beds to 26 beds and will more than double the size of the space to 26,000 square feet, including the waiting areas, exam areas and nursing stations. The area has been designed to provide an enhanced patient experience from the time a patient arrives. The ED will continue to be open around the clock and staffed by a specially trained, multi-lingual team of physicians, nurses and staff to make it a unique, culturally sensitive resource. Work is expected to be completed by fall 2019.
“The upgraded facilities will provide the environment and easy access to care that the community deserves while furnishing our medical staff and other clinicians with the tools they need to deliver top-notch medical care,” said Gerald Clute, CEO of CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. “We are anxious to start on these enhancements and begin the transformation process of our campus.”
